TrustPlus was founded with one goal in mind: to make anonymous Internet transactions safer by providing a ubiquitous reputation service for any online identity. We envisioned a world where no one would ever be robbed or assaulted when responding to a craigslist post and scammers could be easily spotted by their lack of reputation history. Unfortunately, we have not been able to get enough support to make this dream into reality.
Despite the founder of craigslist blogging about safety and reputation, craigslist was unwilling to support our efforts. Partnerships have been hard to come by because safety generally takes a back seat to profits. Finally, we have found that most individual users would rather not take the time to start using a service that requires a few extra minutes when posting or responding to posts on the Internet, even if it might make the Internet a safer place over time. Unable to find support on any front, TrustPlus has made the decision to shut down and discontinue our service.
To our loyal users who have continued to use TrustPlus:
- Please remove any TrustPlus badges from web sites and profiles you have been using to avoid any missing image errors in your pages.
- If you are using the TrustPlus browser add-on, disable or uninstall it as it will slow down your web browsing. In Firefox and Internet Explorer, you can view your list of installed add-ons using the menu option Tools > Add-ons or Tools > Manage Add-ons.
- Please stop using @trustplus.com email addresses to post on craigslist and other classified ad sites — replies to your posts will no longer be forwarded to your regular email. If you have a craigslist or other classified ad account linked to a trustplus.com email address, please change those accounts to use a different email address as soon as possible.
